World Environment Day
Diageo Events
June 2009
This month, The William Tracey Group helped to raise awareness of recycling and energy use at Diageo’s plants across Scotland in aid of supporting World Environment Day 2009.

Fiona Shaw from Diageo peddles the Light Box Generator while Jim Brown, Account Manager for The William Tracey Group, offers advice at the Information Stand. Diageo Shieldhall, 4th June 2009.
World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5th June, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. As an environmentally aware company, Managers at Diageo saw the opportunity to use the national leverage of this day to encourage their considerable workforce to recycle more, both at work and at home.
As Diageo’s principal waste management contractor for Scotland, The William Tracey Group came on site to 11 Diageo Sites during the week of World Environment Day to provide information to employees on the impact of waste on the environment.
Drawing people to the Information Stand was the Light Box demonstrator, kindly supplied by Peachykeen Ltd, which allowed visitors to compare the amount of energy that is required to power a normal light bulb compared to an energy saving light bulb. The hand powered generator was an excellent way of showing employees how they could make a big difference in the energy they use simply by changing to Energy Saving light bulbs. Representatives from The William Tracey Group also handed out information leaflets with key facts on recycling and tips on how to be more environmentally responsible.
