Food & Organics Recycling
Our Food & Organics Recycling service offers a full Zero Waste option by taking a wide range of “waste” materials and, by processing them at an Anaerobic Digestion plant, producing electricity & fertiliser instead of harmful landfill.
There’s a comprehensive range of materials range of materials suitable for organic recycling, and our wide-ranging transport infrastructure means that we provide bespoke systems for storage, collection, and treatment.
Suitable materials include:
• Processing Residues
• Unsold Packaged Food
• Uneaten Scraps
• Fats Oils & Greases
• Peelings, Cuttings & Trimmings
• Reject Batches of Food ingredients or Mixes
• Out of Date/Spoiled Materials or Ingredients
If your company produces food & organic waste, then changing to a more environmentally friendly service couldn’t be easier. We’ll carry out a full audit to determine the right type of containers for your recycling requirements, a collection pattern will be agreed, and at a stroke food waste going to landfill can be eradicated. The material diverted from waste will also be immune from the landfill tax escalation, so there is the potential to make financial as well as environmental savings.
We also recognise that the quality of service is key to making the package successful, so we’ll provide staff training before the service starts, and refresher training at regular intervals.
Local Authorities
Action Point 8 of the Zero Waste Plan published in June 2010 sends out a clear message on the importance of organic recycling by stating that “The initial focus will be on separate collection of food waste, in order to recover its material and energy value and avoid contamination of other waste materials.”
Food recycling on its own, and without contamination from garden waste, offers the maximum energy return. So, whilst a mixed green & food collection service might seem a quick solution to diverting material from landfill, compromising the food element with twigs etc might not stack up over the long term. When other factors such as vehicle costs, treatment costs, and the inevitable lack of suitable material in the winter months are taken into account, dedicated food only collections can offer the best value solution
Our commitment is to ensure that a best value option is found when meeting the aims of the zero waste plan; that could mean working in partnership to handle material at our Anaerobic Digestion plant, or providing the support infrastructure to collect, as well as treat, food & organic recycling.

- 80% of hazardous waste received at our main Hazardous Waste Treatment Facility is recycled or recovered.
- We were the first company in Scotland to achieve PAS 100 accreditation for compost material.
- 40% of staff employed in the management of hazardous waste are qualified, industrial chemists.
- Our laboratory processes on average 600 samples of hazardous waste per month.
